About me!

About the Site

Hi! I’m Jill (aka Busy Mom). I like healthy (most the time), frugal (most the time), and delicious (always!). I usually keep things simple. On this site, you will find recipes for BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER, DESSERT, DRINKS and SNACKS.  I know it can be challenging coming up with a complete meal, so I try to include side dish ideas in most of these posts to make your life a little easier.

If you’re interested, you can also check out the FAMILY MEAL TIME TIPS and HEALTHY EATING HABITS categories.

The Beginning

I began writing this blog in 2010. It started out as My Strawberry Apron and became Busy Mom Recipes in 2014. In 2010, I had recently been married, finished school, and had a sweet little newborn boy. I really enjoyed the challenge of making tasty and nutritious food on a tight budget.

One day, one of my brothers called and during our conversation he asked me what kind of food I eat. That got me thinking. What kind of food do I eat? And what kind of food do other people eat?

Near that same time, I had compiled a list of my favorite recipes and sent it off to another brother of mine. I really wished I had pictures of the recipes to send him as well.

And thinking of my little boy, you know, when he’s all grown up and craving some old childhood favorites, I wanted him to have easy access to the recipes he remembers.

For all of these reasons, I considered starting a recipe blog! And with the support and major encouragement of my husband (not to mention his tech skills!), I finally got started. And he is always encouraging me to keep it up.

About Me

I have always enjoyed cooking and baking. But I think my favorite thing is when there are several people happily crammed in the kitchen, all helping make a meal come together. I also believe it is so important for families to sit down around the table and share regular meal times together. My husband and I have a three-year-old ninja and a spunky two-year-old princess. Both are great kitchen helpers!

Three food-related dreams of mine:

  • plant and maintain a garden
  • go fishing, catch a fish, cook it over a fire and eat it
  • teach an at-home basic cooking skills class

    1. Thanks Mary Anne! I just pulled up wearandbackagain.com and am excited to try some of those recipes too. 🙂 Also, you have such a beautiful daughter-in-law!

  2. Hi Jill,

I am a busy mom of 4, ages 12,10,7, and 3. We are constantly running to practices for baseball, football, and tumbling and I have been struggling with providing my children with a good nutritious meal that can be made fast and easy and that they will enjoy. I’ve been frustrated for a long time, because when I do take the extra time to prepare something, they don’t like it. And pizza or uncrustables can only go so far!! LOL .So I’m looking forward to receiving your recipe emails to help make life a little less stressful!!! I can’t wait to get cooking. 😉

    1. Hi Michelle,

Thanks so much for commenting here and subscribing to our newsletter! You are definitely not alone in getting frustrated when you take time to make a nice meal and then finding that the kids won’t even eat it. Happens all the time!!! It sounds like you have a very busy family with lots of mouths to feed. I hope you find these recipes and family meal time tips helpful! A few recipes that everyone in my family enjoys is the Creamy Potato Soup, Crock Pot Lasagna Soup, and Parfait (Yogurt, Granola, and Berries). The potato and lasagna soup do take time, but both yield quite a bit, so you’ll probably get at least two meals out of each of them. If you’re really short on time, you may want to buy frozen Taquitos and then just whip up some homemade guacamole or maybe add broccoli and ham to macaroni and cheese. Just to make a not-so-healthy meal a little healthier. 🙂

We’d love to hear from you again–please keep us posted on which recipes work well for your family!
