No one will ever guess that you used whole wheat flour in this banana bread! You can also use white flour or do a combination and it turns out great every time! This recipe came from my sister and I just added a few spices.  : )
Ingredients (for two circular 9″ cake pans):

  • 1/4 C. softened butter
  • 3/4 C. sugar
  • 2 mashed bananas
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 16-oz can apple sauce
  • 3 Tbsp. milk
  • 2 C. whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • semi-sweet chocolate chips (mini or regular sized)
  • chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Cream together butter and sugar.
  3. Add bananas, eggs, applesauce, and milk.
  4. In separate bowl, mix flour, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, and allspice.
  5. Combine mixtures. It should be a little thicker than cake batter.
  6. Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts.
  7. Bake in 2 circular cake pans for 25-30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. (It’s definitely better a little more cooked than not cooked enough!)
  8. You can serve it with milk, ice cream, or just by itself.
