Thanks to this easy buttermilk substitute recipe, there’s no reason to buy buttermilk from the store! I’ve never actually bought buttermilk. I would just avoid recipes that called for it. Now that I’ve been introduced to this buttermilk substitute recipe, there is a whole bunch of great recipes that call for buttermilk that I can finally try.
I love how easy it is to throw this buttermilk substitute recipe together and it’s even kind of fun to see the milk curdle. 🙂 It’s like a little science experiment.
Buttermilk Substitute Recipe
Ingredients:
- about 1 C. milk or heavy cream
- 1 Tbsp. lemon juice or apple cider vinegar
Instructions:
Put 1 Tbsp. of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar in a 1 Cup measuring cup. Fill the rest of it up with milk or heavy cream. Stir very carefully. Let sit about 5-10 minutes, or until milk begins to curdle.
Add it to a recipe that calls for buttermilk, like these healthy muffins with molasses!
